Laser therapy is now offered for our patients for the treatment of periodontal disease, otherwise known as gum disease.
What is Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy?
Laser assisted periodontal therapy is the most modern dental procedure offered today, using laser technology, to treat periodontal disease. In comparison, traditional periodontal therapy for gum disease involves heavily numbing the area around the infected gum area, surgically removing infected tissue, and may require a healing time between two to six weeks. When using a specialized laser, minimal anesthesia is required, and a concentrated area of energy is targeted to the diseased gum area to get rid of infected gum tissue and bacteria, while keeping surrounding healthy tissue intact.
What are the benefits of Laser Gum Treatment?
Laser therapy provides less discomfort during treatment, is minimally invasive, less damaging, and has high precision and accuracy. There is no done to the surrounding teeth or bone. Healing time is quicker and more comfortable after leaving the office, due to the sealing clot that is formed by the laser. Therefore, recovery is faster and more comfortable. Gone are the several days of bleeding post-operatively and weeks of soreness as with traditional gum treatment.
